Mitchell "Mitch" James Eichman

Mitchell “Mitch” James Eichman passed away on November 26, 2020, at his home in Plainville, KS, at the age of 44. He was born on July 31, 1976 in Hays, KS to Jim and Cindy (Hrabe) Eichman.

Growing up in Plainville, Mitch graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1995. He attended the Diesel Technician Program at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, KS. During his high school years, Mitch was strongly involved in the Plainville FFA Chapter and was a chapter officer all four years. He also held FFA District Officer positions his junior and senior years, and was class President his senior year. Never one to forget a joke, he was funny and often was told he could be a professional comedian. He loved visiting with friends and family and was a great storyteller. He was a collector and keeper of many things; never found to throw away a hunting magazine.

Mitch was a good-hearted man who worked hard, enjoyed life and cherished his family and friends. Although he was taken from us far too soon, we know that those we enjoyed and loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. We can smile because he lived and left us with cherished memories that will live forever in our hearts. He will be remembered in love.

Deanna Becker

Deanna Lee Becker

Deanna Lee (Beck) Becker passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, at the age of 82. She was born on August 28, 1938 to Harold and Reva (Rigby) Beck in the Round Mound Township of Osborne County, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Becker on October 22, 1960 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. The couple spent 60 years of marriage together and were blessed with three sons: Michael, Douglas, and Chad.
Deanna grew up in the Osborne County area. She graduated from Natoma High School with the Class of 1956 and then attended Fort Hays State University for one year before starting a job at the State Capital in 1957. She then moved to Plainville in 1958 and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 15 years, followed by 20 years for Chase Well Service taking care of the books and radio communication. While working at home for Chase Well Service, she would also babysit for friends and family in Plainville. She stayed busy later in life when her children grew up and had children of their own. It was rare for her to miss any activities or events that her grandkids or great-grandkids were involved in. She was a sports fan and her top teams were K-State for football and KU Jayhawks for basketball. She also enjoyed watching her grandson Joseph play football at McPherson College. When she traveled to her grandkids’ games, she would visit different churches in the area – she has probably seen most of the churches in the state, a testament to her devoted faith and love for the Lord. Traveling in general was something she loved to do as she traveled to several different vacation spots and made sure to hit some casinos on the way. She stayed busy when she was at home with her garden, being apart of the Daughters of Isabella, attending church events or masses, and even helping prepare funeral meals for Sacred Heart members who passed on before her.
Deanna was a hardworking woman who showed her love by serving and caring for her family, friends, and church. With the same love and patience required to grow her gardens, she planted in each one of us the seeds of faith, hope, and love. Through her daily example, she showed us that the greatest of these is love. Although Deanna will be greatly missed, she will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her best, for she was greatly loved.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Becker of the home; sons, Michael (Jody) Becker of Plainville, KS, Douglas (Tammi) Becker of Raytown, MO, and Chad (Lisa) Becker of Tecumseh, KS; siblings, Beverly Hachmeister of Natoma, KS, Anita (Gail) Griffin of Alton KS, and Harold Jr. “Bud” Beck of Russell, KS; eleven grandchildren, Ashley (Brian) Hay, Joseph (Jana) Becker, Alaina Becker, Andrew Becker, the twins: Henry and Cory Becker, Matthew Becker, Emma Becker, Jacob Becker, Jeremy Rowles and Adel (Christina) Bjiouat; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Reva Beck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 10:30AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Natoma Cemetery. The Apostle Paul said, “Let us throw off everything that hinders, and run with perseverance, the race marked out for us.” Missy was a good woman with a good heart who lived life with determination and perseverance and enjoyed the ride with family, friends, and loved ones. Alvin Joseph Schrandt

Alvin Joseph Schrandt

He was born on March 11, 1929 to William and Catherine (Adam) Schrandt in Plainville, Kansas. He was united in marriage to Betty (Camerer) Schrandt on May 5, 1956 at the Sacred Heart Church in Plainville. They were blessed with a daughter, Regina and later fostered ten other children.
Alvin spent his life in the Plainville area. Following the 8th grade he went to work on the family farm and didn’t stop until his health no longer allowed him to put in the long hours and strenuous labors the fields and livestock required. He was awarded in the early 2000’s the Century Farm Award. He worked hard and enjoyed the company of his family to assist in the jobs on the farm. Alvin never missed an opportunity for his grandkids, or any kids for that matter, to help him tend to the fields or livestock. He was a father figure to not only his child and the kids he and Betty fostered, but even to his nieces, nephews, grandkids, and people outside of the family. Alvin was proud to be involved in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a part of the Farm Bureau.
It has been said, “Kindness is like a seed that when cultivated will continue to grow and grow.” Alvin was a kind and loving man who lived to serve his family, friends, and neighbors. He not only tended the farm ground that made a living for his family, but he tended the hearts and souls of all knew him and made a life that will continue to grow for eternity.
Alvin is survived by his daughter, Regina (Dave) Riley of Plainville; sisters, Grace McManus of Lincoln, NE, Edna Stone of Phoenix, AZ, Marcella McFadden of CA and Willie Reeves of Plainville, KS; nine-grandchildren, K.C. Gerald F. "Jerry" Ruder

Gerald F. "Jerry" Ruder

Gerald F. “Jerry” Ruder was called to his heavenly home on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at the age of 83. Jerry was born to Leo and Bridget (Bieker) Ruder on December 6, 1936 in Rural Rooks County. He was united in marriage to Sonja (Grieve) Ruder on December 28, 1960 and was blessed with two daughters: Jacqueline and Bridget.
Jerry grew up in Rooks County where he attended Plainville High School and graduated with the class of 1954. Following high school he attended Seminary School briefly before he returned home in 1958 to tend to his family’s farm after his father suffered a heart attack. His father Leo was a man of many talents and some could say Jerry molded to a figure much like him. Jerry was well known for his expertise in wheat farming, his ambitious drive, working to the best of his abilities, humble intelligence, and firm faith in the Lord. Jerry was very active in the church for many years. He also spent many years farming and working at grain elevators for the Co-op and later Midland Marketing until he was forced to retire due to declining health. Even in retirement his will to keep pushing through the days with grace was evident to the people he was around. Jerry kept going and loved to travel. Weekends were for small trips around Kansas, whether it was to shop, explore wildlife, or enjoy the back roads; it was for getting out of the house and spending time with family and ending a good Saturday by dressing up in his church attire to attend mass to praise Jesus. After harvest he would take his family on a vacation, many of those trips to Colorado, to get away and unwind after all the long days spent working the grain elevator, helping others to bring in the fruits of their labor.
If Jerry wasn’t busy working on grain elevators, tending the land, playing pitch, traveling somewhere to eat, or eating - you could find him kicked back in a recliner with a cat, watching some sort of sporting event. He loved all sports, didn’t matter what it was, if he was watching TV, there was sports on. His favorite teams were the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and K-State. He had a competitive nature and a work ethic to back it. In high school Jerry may not have been the biggest guy on the football field, but that perseverance to be better earned him several varsity letterings and praise from his peers. That competitive drive was carried beyond high school to all facets of his life, including eating! He loved to eat, find new places to eat, and have competitions of who could eat the most between family members.
A few paragraphs could never fully justify the life of a holy, hardworking, kind-hearted, family man. The memories and stories that will be told will keep that tender and kindred spirit alive and be a testament to a life centered around faith, family, and love.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bridget Ruder; and brothers, Alfred, Walter, and Melvin Ruder.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sonja Ruder of Hays, KS; his daughters, Jacqueline (Ron) Leikam of Hays, KS and Bridget (Don) Cersovsky of Amarillo, TX; nieces and nephews, and other brothers and sisters of Christ.
