Paul Frederick Rempe went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Wichita County Long Term Care Center at the age of 87. He was born on March 16, 1931 in Plainville, Kansas to Ernest and Mary (Hoff) Rempe. Paul married Ruth Ferland on May 4, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Damar, Kansas. To this union 7 children were born; Mary, Christine, Robert, Louise, Anthony, Daniel, and Colette.
Georgine Agnes (Jacobs) Fisher passed away December 15, 2018 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 94. She was born July 2, 1924 to John and Regina (Bieker) Jacobs in Ellis County, Kansas. Georgine married Alfred J. Fisher on August 23, 1943 in Antonio, Kansas. They were blessed with six children: Melba, Gary, June, Jean, Fred, and Connie.
Clifford Omer Roy passed away on December 8, 2018 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton at the age of 88. He was born on August 29, 1930 to Dona and Nathalie (Asselin) Roy in the Webster Township, Rooks County. On May 17, 1954 he married JoAnn Wolcott at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar. They were blessed with 5 children: Douglas, Tracy, Corey, Paris, and Gina.
Mary Evelyn Stewart Eckart passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the age of 98 ½ at Neuvant House in Lawrence, KS. Mary was born on May 30, 1920 in St. Anthony, Idaho, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Reed) Falk. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1938. During WW II, she and her sister Fern moved to Denver, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City to work in government positions and support the war effort.
Elaine McCall passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at the age of 90, at her residence at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton. Elaine was born on March 3, 1928 in Smith County, Kansas to the late Cecil and Loretta (Gouldie) Mathew.
Brenda D Crawford passed away October 23, 2018, at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas at the age of 78. She was born in Hays on October 12, 1940 to Leonard and Edna (Darnell) Kern. Brenda grew up and attended school in Plainville. She graduated from Marymount College in Salina with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. On October 5, 1963, she married Cecil Crawford in Plainville. They were blessed with three sons: John, Scott, and Dan.
Joan M. Gilbert passed away on September 26, 2018, at the Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 79. She was born on July 29, 1939 in Lyons, Kansas to the late Paul and Mildred (Sauers) Waterman. Joan grew up in Plainville where she attended Turkville Country School, then Plainville High School where she graduated. Following her high school graduation Joan attended FHSU.
Janice Marie Kaba passed away on September 7, 2018, surrounded by her family, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 78. She was born on November 1, 1939 in Hays, Kansas to the late John J. and Regina (Beiker) Jacobs. She grew up in Hays and graduated from Girls’ Catholic High School with the Class of 1958. On October 1, 1960 she was united in marriage to James Kaba in Antonino, Kansas.
Carol JoAnn “Jo” (Thummel) Bennett passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 80. She was born on April 1, 1938 in Jewell County, Kansas to the late Greg and Mildred (Ulin) Thummel. She grew up in the Esbon area and graduated from Esbon High School with the Class of 1956. She went on to attend cosmetology school in Kansas City.
William “Bill” or “Bo” Bobek passed away at his home in Plainville, Kansas on August 27, 2018. He was 96 years old. Bill was born in Breezyhill, Kansas on January 30, 1922 to Louis and Paulene (Goveshek) Bobek.
Magdalena L. Zink of Kirwin, Kansas passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 83. She was born on June 21, 1935 in Germany. In 1965 she was united in marriage to William Charles Zink, Jr. in England.
Lyle Dean “Shorty” Emery passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 85. He was born on February 20, 1933 in Lebanon, Kansas to the late Frank and Levona (Manchester) Emery. He grew up in the Smith County, Kansas area and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1951. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Melanie Ann Nelson passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at her home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 57. She was born March 11, 1961 in Leominster, Massachusetts to Donald and Mary Ann (Moeder) Fisher. She attended Fort Hays State University earning a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She married Brian Nelson on April 26, 1980. They became parents of two sons, Tyler and Tanner Nelson. Melanie and Brian later divorced. At the time of her death, she was engaged to Tim Beim of Phillipsburg.
Marilyn Joan Morissey passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at her home in Dighton, KS at the age of 88. She was born in Larned, KS on October 28, 1929 to Frank and Ruth (Smith) Slayton. She married Darrell Lee Morrissey on July 24, 1949 in Ulysses, KS. They were blessed with four children: Jeff, Patrick, Michael, and Pamela.
Thomas Eugene “Tom” Leikam passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 57. He was born on December 6, 1960 in Plainville, Kansas to the late Alvin and Lucille (Schrandt) Leikam. He grew up in the Plainville area and graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1978. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication from Kansas State University.
Shirley Mae Schindler Breeden passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 82. She was born on September 5, 1935 in Damar, Kansas to the late James and Jessie (Malone) Trible. She grew up in Damar and attended local schools. She was united in marriage to Abraham “Junior” Schindler on Feb. 26, 1952 in Hays, Kansas. They were blessed with two children Delores and Steven.
Naomi Marie Eilers passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 17. She was born on January 13, 2001 in Hays, Kansas to Jay Allen Eilers and Liza Faye Burgess. She grew up in Plainville and was a junior at Plainville High School.
