Congratulations on getting engaged! Matrimony is one of the seven sacraments of our Church and so a couple should be properly prepared for this great sacrament. This is why a newly engaged couple should contact the priest as soon as possible in order to begin the preparation for the sacrament. It is necessary to contact the priest at minimum 6 months prior to the desired wedding date. After contacting the priest he will discuss with the newly engaged couple the date of the wedding and the best possible ways to be prepared for the sacrament.
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."
