Carol JoAnn “Jo” (Thummel) Bennett passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 80. She was born on April 1, 1938 in Jewell County, Kansas to the late Greg and Mildred (Ulin) Thummel. She grew up in the Esbon area and graduated from Esbon High School with the Class of 1956. She went on to attend cosmetology school in Kansas City.
William “Bill” or “Bo” Bobek passed away at his home in Plainville, Kansas on August 27, 2018. He was 96 years old. Bill was born in Breezyhill, Kansas on January 30, 1922 to Louis and Paulene (Goveshek) Bobek.
After living through the Great Depression and working at a CCC camp in Utah, Bill served in the United States Navy from December 10, 1942 to December 30, 1945. He served during World War II and crossed the Equator three times during his tour of service.

Lyle Dean “Shorty” Emery passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 85. He was born on February 20, 1933 in Lebanon, Kansas to the late Frank and Levona (Manchester) Emery. He grew up in the Smith County, Kansas area and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1951. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1955.

She was born March 11, 1961 in Leominster, Massachusetts to Donald and Mary Ann (Moeder) Fisher. She attended Fort Hays State University earning a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She married Brian Nelson on April 26, 1980. They became parents of two sons, Tyler and Tanner Nelson. Melanie and Brian later divorced. At the time of her death, she was engaged to Tim Beim of Phillipsburg.

Mary Doreen (Fickel) Towns of Palco, Kansas passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. She was born July 18, 1935 in Chanute, Kansas to the late Leo F. and Ella Beth (Nichols) Fickel. Mary grew up in Chanute, Kansas and attended the Chanute Schools. She went on to attend Kansas State University and graduated in 1957 with a degree in education. On January 25, 1958, she married Therean L. Towns in Chanute, Kansas. They moved to Palco, Kansas where they farmed and raised their family.

In 1977 she married Robert “Bob” Dopita, they later divorced. Together they had two children, Bobbi Jo and Tony.
